I love doing family sessions (well, I love doing most every session!), and I especially love when we get gorgeous weather to complement our equally beautiful families. Spring always brings lovely colors, bright greens and pretty florals, and families often flock to get their photos done. However, when you begin shopping for coordinating outfits, especially with young children, it can be overwhelming. We have rounded up some of our favorite spots and options for shopping and coordinating family outfits (even on a budget):
For dad: It is helpful to dress dad in solid or neutral colors, since it is easier to find men’s neutrals and solids than women and children, typically. Men also are generally less “picky” and have an easier time finding their sizes and lengths in pants and tops. Old Navy and their cousins Gap and Banana Republic are always a great place to start for men’s clothing in colors that photograph well. One great example is this classic, slim-fit men’s button down. It comes out to just under $25, and is a great starting point to build a family color scheme around.
For mom: We love the well-kept secret of JCrew factory, a lower-priced online and in-store option for the pretty, polished and rich colors of JCrew. They have everything from shorts to tops and skirts that will look great on women of many body types. Most are washable as well, which makes them a good option for busy moms. This casual, flattering shift is really pretty for a dressier option, and this top is a pretty choice if you want to wear something like jeans or a slim pair of slacks. Locally, we also love the Pink Chandelier in Beaumont, which has cute and trendy, bohemian styles. (Tip: Mom, find your outfit first..when you feel good, it shows in the photos in genuine smiles and expressions!)
For kids: There are a lot of great places to find kid’s clothes, but if you’re looking for something unique and a bit more eclectic, MudPie is a great spot to begin. They carry a variety of sizes which makes coordinating bit easier. Remember that if you choose prints, allowing one or two family members to wear prints and the rest to wear solids makes a better blend. Old Navy and Baby Gap are also great choices to find coordinating wear. If you’re looking for a big sister/little sister(s) combo, try Gymboree. They have fantastic sales and their collections typically coordinate, making it super simple for photos. If you don’t want to shop online, we also have the adorable Milli Kids close by…one of my favorite spots to find ensembles for the little ones.
