One of my strongest character qualities is a love of learning. You may have seen over the years (if you follow the blog), that I am always looking up new locations, building or purchasing new props, and adding to my amazing newborn and maternity wardrobes. I am passionate about learning new techniques, safety tips, and styles, and I feel that every year, there is something new to discover! Each year, I also find about two workshops that I want to attend; usually there is someone who has been on my bucket list to work with, and who has an incredible reputation. In 2016, I was privileged to be mentored by Kristen Mackey of Son Kissed Photography. Kristen is one the sweetest and most helpful mentors you could ask for, and has continued to support me long after our mentorship…which speaks volumes about her character and expertise. I had another opportunity to meet up with Kristen this past April in my own studio. Kristen is definitely one I would highly recommend working with for any of your newborn photography mentoring needs. (Images by Son Kissed Photography on Facebook, used with permission)
From Kristen: “I own Son Kissed Photography, and have been a photographer for the last decade. I came from a background in Human Resources, and earned my degree in Business Administration and began my career in the corporate world. It wasn’t until I had my son, that my love for photography blossomed. All I wanted were a few nice photos of him growing up, so my husband surprised me with my first DSLR camera for Christmas that year, and the rest is history! I crammed as much information as I could into my brain by watching videos, reading articles and taking several years of classes at a local camera shop. I eventually quit my full-time job to completely switch my career to photography.
In 2011, I was asked to mentor another photographer on newborn photography. At that point I didn’t feel like I had much to offer but thought it would be a great experience for me. Little did I know, I completely fell in love with teaching, and have since taught thousands of photographers everything there is to know about newborn photography. From posing to soothing, safety, parent prep, running a business and so much more. I have been asked to speak at several conferences in other countries including : US, Brazil, Spain, United Kingdom, Germany and Australia. It is such an honor and a privilege to be recognized worldwide for my teachings and craft! There are many options to learn about newborn photography from in person to online but, in my opinion, nothing will ever compare to in-person mentoring. Where you can see up close and personal everything that is going on. I currently offer both hands-on mentoring, online mentoring and workshops in different states throughout the year. Thank you again so much for letting me tell you about my journey and myself.”
If you are interested in learning about Kristen’s mentoring program, I’d recommend it highly. You can find out more here. Thank you Kristen, for investing in me, and building my love of learning!
