The cake smash! We know you, like so many parents, have been eagerly anticipating the special milestone when your little one can do a cake smash session. They are one of our most beloved shoots, and for good reason; they create a fun, happy, and beautiful memory that lasts forever. While you prepare for that unique shoot, here are three simple ways you can make it seamless and easy:
-Book now and begin dreaming: If you are needing images for an invitation, please book at least one month out from the big party, and if you are needing images for the actual party decor, please book at least 2 weeks from the date. Next, come up with the theme that you are wanting. We have done many special themes, such as a circus, “Wild One”, Dr Seuss, Milk and Cookies, and more. I want every client to feel that their shoot suits their little one, their nursery decor, or the personality of their family. Before you dream up your theme, you want to make sure that you secure your date!
-Once you have decided on your theme, it’s time to think about outfits: I am more than happy to hear your theme, and help you brainstorm about what outfits might work best. Etsy, as well as other boutiques online, have so many options for your theme. We have done things like a “Greatest Showman” theme, and mom found a gorgeous little ringmaster’s coat! The wardrobe is one of the most fun parts of your shoot. If you are struggling to find something that suits your theme, please let me know. We have several preferred vendors, websites and suggestions to help guide you.
-The cake: Oftentimes, little ones don’t love the cake as much as we anticipate they will, but there are ways to prepare them before your shoot begins. Purchasing a whipped cream cake or cupcakes beforehand (or even making them yourself) can introduce them to the textures and feelings that come along with eating cake and playing with it! Pro tip: If you’re at home, give them the cupcake or cake in an empty bathtub while they are just in shorts or a diaper! It will be much easier to clean them up and you’ll be able to spray it all down! You may actually do this a few times before your session to get them comfortable and at ease.
We provide just about everything you need, but we do have a short list of items that you’ll need to bring with you for your shoot. Baby wipes, a ziplock bag for dirty clothes, a change of clothes for baby, a garbage bag for props, and a cup of water/milk for baby. Your cake smash session with us comes with 25+ carefully edited, gorgeous images! We are so excited to work with you and your little one.
