So, you’re expecting twins (or multiples)? I’m so excited for you, and know how important this season of life is. In my many years of newborn photography, I’ve been blessed to do several twin or multiple sessions and have learned a tip or two about how to make them as smooth as possible. There are dynamics during a twin/multiples session that aren’t the same as a singleton newborn session, and it’s important to know how to approach this before you arrive! Here are some of my best tips and thoughts as you plan your newborn shoot:

-Book early and ask your photographer about their experience with multiples: Like me, many newborn photographers have worked with twins or multiples, and this experience is critical. You want someone who has worked with these unique situations, because it can be tricky and you want your newborn’s safety to be paramount! I’m always happy to answer any questions about your newborn session.

-Let me know if you have special requests: Parents of multiples or twins often have a variety of requests when it comes to newborn sessions. Some parents want every image to be of all the babies together, and some would like separate images. I make sure to listen to what you are want, and present what has worked best in the past with other clients. Together, we can make sure that you get the images you want!

-Timing and flexibility are key: Whether your twins or multiples are your first or last babies, it’s important to be flexible and understand that feeding and sleeping may happen at different times for each baby. Schedule your session during a time of day when your babies are typically more settled, such as after a feeding or nap. Be prepared to be flexible with the timing and duration of the session to accommodate your babies’ needs.
