Every family I photograph brings their own rhythm and story, and being invited into that space is always such a gift. When I spent time with the Compton family for their maternity session, I could immediately feel the tenderness between them. This season is full of change and anticipation. What stood out most was the calm joy they carried through it all.
We spent the session in a peaceful outdoor setting, with soft light that seemed to match the mood perfectly. They shared some of the little things that have made this pregnancy so memorable, like the many grilled cheeses that helped ease cravings, the joy of finding out they’re having a girl, and the excitement of telling their families they were expecting. These are the kinds of memories that don’t make it into baby books but are so worth holding on to.
I especially loved hearing how this dad-to-be has been such a steady presence. Whether it’s taking care of his wife when she isn’t feeling her best or lighting up the moment he felt their baby move for the first time, it’s clear how much he’s poured into this experience. And her love for him shines just as brightly. The way she talks about his cooking, his strength, and how hard he works is filled with admiration and warmth. Their banter is playful and easy, and it made the whole session feel like spending time with old friends.
We kept things simple during the shoot, focusing on natural poses and honest moments. She rested her hands gently on her belly while he stood beside her, proud and calm. There was no rush, no pressure. Just time to soak in what it feels like to be on the cusp of something so big and beautiful. Every maternity session reminds me why I love this work, and this one left a mark on my heart. I hope when they look back on these images, they’re reminded not just of how everything looked, but how it felt. The stillness, the laughter, the soft beginnings of a new chapter.
If you’re expecting and thinking about booking a maternity session, I’d love to help you create something that feels personal and real. You can also take a peek at another one of my favorites, the Wilson Family newborn session, which captures a beautiful capture of their story.
Let’s make something meaningful together.
