One of the first things parents say to me when they’re booking their newborn session is some version of, “I just hope the baby cooperates.” I understand where that comes from. You’ve probably seen those peaceful, sleepy images and assumed everything has to go perfectly to get them. The truth is, your baby doesn’t need to cooperate at all. They just need to be a baby.

Newborn sessions in my Fort Worth studio are never built around rigid expectations. They are built around your baby. That means we move slowly, we pause when needed, and we follow their cues instead of trying to control them. If your baby wants to stretch, we let them stretch. If they need to eat, we stop and feed. If they want to stay awake for a while, that’s perfectly fine too. Some of the sweetest images come from those in-between moments when babies are simply being themselves.
There’s also a lot that happens behind the scenes that most parents don’t realize. Over the years, I’ve learned how to read newborn cues, how to gently guide them into comfortable positions, and how to adjust everything from room temperature to timing so they feel secure. Safety is always the priority. Every pose is done with intention, and if something doesn’t feel right for your baby, we don’t force it. Ever.

Baby-led posing is a big part of that approach. Instead of placing your baby into positions they resist, I watch how they naturally settle. The way they curl their legs, turn their head, or tuck their hands often creates the most beautiful and natural images. Those little details are what make your photos feel real and timeless. Not stiff or overly styled, but soft, connected, and true to this season.
Parents are often surprised by how relaxed the experience feels. There is no rushing, no pressure, and no expectation for your baby to perform. You don’t need to worry about whether they’ll sleep the whole time or fuss a little. I plan for all of it. That calm, flexible environment is what allows everything to come together in a way that feels effortless.
And here’s something I always want you to remember. These early days are not meant to be perfect. They’re meant to be felt. The tiny stretches, the little yawns, even the moments where your baby needs you close. Those are the memories you’ll want to hold onto. My job is to preserve them in a way that feels peaceful and honest, without asking your baby to be anything other than who they are.
If you’re expecting and starting to think about newborn photos, the best thing you can do is reach out during your pregnancy so we can reserve your due date on my calendar. From there, I’ll guide you through every step and create a session that feels calm, safe, and beautifully simple from beginning to end.
