One of the questions I hear from new parents is whether they waited too long to schedule newborn photos. The first two weeks are often recommended because babies tend to sleep deeply and curl naturally into those familiar newborn poses, but that timeline is a helpful guideline rather than a firm deadline. If your baby is already three, four, or even several weeks old, there is still so much worth photographing.
Newborn photos after two weeks can have a slightly different feel, and I love the personality that often begins to show during this stage. Your baby may spend more time looking around the studio, watching your face, or stretching out instead of staying curled up. Those awake moments bring something especially sweet to a gallery because you are beginning to see little expressions that already feel familiar at home.

Many older newborns will still settle into wrapped poses and sleep for part of the session, especially after a feeding and plenty of time to get comfortable. If your baby prefers to stay awake or does not enjoy a certain position, I simply change what we are doing. I never expect a baby to follow a set plan, and I leave room for the session to unfold in the way that feels best for them.
Families arrive at the studio on different timelines for all kinds of very real reasons. Sometimes a mother needs more time to recover, and sometimes a baby has spent time receiving extra care before everyone is ready for photos. The early weeks at home can also pass in a blur, and scheduling a session may be the last thing on your mind. You do not need to feel guilty or assume the opportunity is gone because your family needed a little more time.
When I photograph an older newborn, I still pay attention to all the tiny details parents want to remember, while also making space for the ways their baby has already changed. We may capture sleepy wrapped images, wide-open eyes, or the way your baby relaxes as soon as they are placed in your arms. Parents and siblings can be included as well, which helps the finished gallery feel connected to this season of life instead of centered only on a certain kind of pose.

My Fort Worth studio is warm, quiet, and prepared for the slower pace newborn sessions often require. Everything is cleaned before each family arrives, and we take breaks whenever your baby needs to eat or be held. There is no pressure to keep moving when your baby needs a few minutes, and that flexibility is just as important with a four-week-old as it is with a brand-new baby.
If you have been putting off reaching out because you think your baby may be too old, send me a message and tell me a little about where you are right now. I can help you understand what your session may look like at your baby’s age and plan something that feels comfortable for your family. Newborn photos after two weeks are still newborn photos, and I would be happy to welcome you into my Fort Worth studio.
