After years of photographing families in Fort Worth, I still feel incredibly lucky that this is where I get to do what I love. Fort Worth has a warmth to it that fits family photography so well. It is a growing city, but it still feels personal. Families put down roots here, grandparents live close enough to be part of everyday life, and there is a strong sense of community that I see again and again in the people who step in front of my camera.
One of my favorite things about being a Fort Worth family photographer is getting to watch families grow over the years. I may first meet a couple for maternity photos, then photograph their newborn, and before long that tiny baby is running around during a family session. Sometimes another baby joins the family, or I get to photograph grandparents and extended family members, too. Seeing those changes from one year to the next is one of the best parts of this job.
Fort Worth also gives us such a beautiful backdrop for family photography. We have gorgeous Texas light, changing seasons, open spaces and plenty of variety throughout the area. I carefully choose each session location based on the time of year, the light and what will photograph best for the family I am working with. My clients do not have to spend hours searching for the perfect spot or wondering where we should go. That is part of my job, and I love being able to take that decision off their plate.
I also think there is something special about Fort Worth families themselves. Many of the families I photograph are busy juggling school schedules, sports, work and all the normal pieces of raising children. They are not showing up because life is perfectly organized. They are showing up because they know how quickly their children are changing. A toddler who wants to be held today may be heading off to kindergarten before you know it. The elementary school years turn into middle school, and suddenly the child who once fit on your hip is almost as tall as you are.
That is why my approach to family photography in Fort Worth is centered around making the experience as easy as I can for parents. I choose the location and timing, and I help style my clients so they are not left trying to figure everything out on their own. My client closet includes options for moms, dads and children, which can make getting everyone ready much simpler. By the time we meet for the session, most of the big decisions have already been handled.
I love that the families I work with do not expect their children to suddenly become perfect little models. Kids are kids, and that is exactly how I want them to arrive. Some need a few minutes to warm up. Some want to explore. Some have a lot to say, and others would rather stay close to Mom or Dad. I have photographed enough children to know that a successful family session does not depend on everyone behaving perfectly. Often, the photographs parents love most come from the little interactions that happen along the way.
Fort Worth is home to so many families building lives they will someday look back on and wonder how the years moved so quickly. I get to preserve a small piece of that for them, and I never take that lightly. These photographs become the ones hanging in hallways, sitting on grandparents’ shelves and filling albums that children will eventually look through when they are older.
If you are looking for a Fort Worth family photographer, I would love to help you plan a session that feels comfortable for your family and takes the guesswork out of the process. You bring your people, and I will take care of choosing a beautiful location, finding the right time and helping you prepare. Fort Worth has been such a wonderful place to photograph families, and I would love to photograph yours, too.
