One of the most common questions I get from expecting parents is, “Why do newborn sessions take place so early?” It’s a great question! Those first few weeks after birth are a whirlwind of sleepless nights, endless snuggles, and big adjustments. But as a newborn photographer, I always encourage families to schedule their baby’s first photo session within the first few weeks of life. Here’s why those early days are the absolute best time to capture your little one’s first portraits.
First, newborns are at their sleepiest and most flexible in those first couple of weeks. During this stage, babies are still curled up in the cozy positions they were in the womb, which allows me to gently pose them into those sweet, snuggly setups you see in my portfolio. Their deep sleep makes it easier to get those peaceful, dreamy shots without too much disruption.
Another reason to schedule early is that newborns change so quickly! Within just a few short weeks, your baby will begin to stretch out, become more alert, and develop their own little expressions and personality. While every stage of babyhood is beautiful, there is something so special about capturing those fresh, tiny details—like wispy hair, wrinkly toes, and delicate eyelashes—before they start to change.
Lastly, early newborn sessions allow parents to relax and truly enjoy the experience. I know those first few weeks can feel overwhelming, but my goal is to create a calm, stress-free environment where you can soak in the sweetness of your baby. My sessions are designed to be peaceful and soothing, so all you have to do is show up and enjoy watching your little one be photographed.
If you’re expecting, I’d love to help you plan your newborn session and ensure we capture this fleeting stage before it slips away. Booking ahead of time guarantees we’ll have a spot for your little one, and I’ll guide you through every step to make it a beautiful, memorable experience. I can’t wait to meet you and your sweet new addition!
