When families begin to think about scheduling a newborn or maternity session, one of the first questions that comes up is if it’s worth the drive. I often hear sweet mamas say, “Oh, I would love to, but I’m too far away.” The truth is, many of those families are only about an hour from my studio. I understand completely that an hour can feel overwhelming when you have a newborn, or when you’re expecting and feeling extra tired. That is a very real concern for DFW families, and I never want to minimize that. At the same time, I encourage families to think about what that one hour means in the big picture. We all make drives like that for important things in life. We travel an hour to see a doctor we trust, or to take our children to activities that are meaningful for them. Sometimes we even drive farther just to enjoy a favorite restaurant or visit a loved one.
Your newborn portraits or maternity session hold the same kind of value. They are not just another appointment on the calendar. These are moments that will never come again. A tiny baby will only stay tiny for a short season, and your maternity glow is here only once with each child. Capturing those memories with care and attention is something you will treasure for decades to come. I want you to know that when you arrive, everything will be prepared for you. I make the process as restful and enjoyable as possible. From the carefully chosen props and wraps to the gentle pace of the session, my goal is to make it a peaceful experience where you can simply exhale and enjoy your baby. You will not need to worry about a thing once you step into the studio. Think of the drive itself as part of the journey. Many families share that the car ride becomes a quiet time, almost like a pause in the busyness of those early days. It is a chance to talk, reflect, or simply enjoy a moment of calm before stepping into a session that is all about celebrating your family’s newest chapter.
When you look back, the brief drive will not be what you remember. You will remember holding your baby in soft light, feeling their little fingers curl around yours, and seeing the beautiful portraits that preserve it all. You will be thankful you made the choice to come, even if it felt like “too far” in the beginning. So if you are wondering if it is worth the trip, I hope you hear my heart. Your story is precious, and your memories are worth every mile. I would be honored to welcome you, no matter where you are coming from, and help create images that you will cherish always.
