One of the most common things I hear from moms after they book a session is, “Now I have to figure out what everyone is going to wear.” I can almost hear the stress creep into their voice. What should be an exciting part of preparing for family, maternity, or newborn photos suddenly becomes another task on an already full to-do list. Between work, kids, activities, and everyday life, finding outfits for an entire family can feel overwhelming before you even know where to start.
Most moms begin the same way. They open Pinterest, scroll Instagram, save a few screenshots, and start browsing websites. Before long, there are multiple tabs open, shopping carts filled with dresses, and a growing list of things that still need to be coordinated. One outfit leads to another. The dress needs shoes. The kids need something that matches. Dad’s shirt suddenly doesn’t work with the color palette. What started as a quick search can easily turn into hours of planning.
Then come the packages. Sometimes the first dress isn’t quite right. Maybe the color looks different in person, the fit isn’t what you expected, or it photographs differently than you imagined. Back it goes. Another order is placed. Another return label gets printed. Before the session even arrives, many families have invested a surprising amount of time and money into clothing that may only be worn once.
The thing is, wardrobe matters, but probably not in the way most people think. The right clothing should support your photos, not create stress around them. When parents are worried about whether everyone’s outfits coordinate or whether a dress is flattering, it’s hard to fully enjoy the experience. Instead of focusing on their family, they’re thinking about whether they made the right choices.
That’s one of the reasons I built my client closet. I wanted to take one of the biggest sources of stress off my clients’ plates. Instead of spending weeks shopping and second-guessing every decision, many of my families are able to choose from pieces that I already know photograph beautifully. Everything has been selected with real sessions in mind, from flattering fits to colors that work well on camera.
One of my favorite parts of helping clients prepare is watching the relief set in when they realize they don’t have to do it all themselves. We can talk through options together, coordinate outfits for the family, and create a look that feels natural without requiring endless online shopping trips. My goal is never to make you fit into a specific style. It’s to help you feel comfortable, confident, and ready to enjoy your session.
At the end of the day, the photographs are what you’ll keep. Years from now, you won’t remember how many dresses you ordered or how many returns you made. You’ll remember holding your baby, laughing with your kids, and seeing your family exactly as they were during this season of life. If I can make getting to that moment a little easier, that’s exactly what I want to do.
If you’re planning a maternity, newborn, or family session in Fort Worth, Keller, Southlake, Dallas, or the surrounding DFW area, I’d love to help make the process simple from start to finish. My client closet is available to help take the guesswork out of styling so you can focus on what matters most: enjoying time with the people you love.
