Pantone announced the gorgeous, deep wine, “Marsala” color as their 2015 Color of the Year, but how do you carry a dark burgundy into Spring and Summer? We love blending the rich hue with airy lace and crochet pieces that complement it but keep it light. Here’s one example, a beautiful brighter shade of burgundy in a Maxi dress from Forever 21 that could easily be layered with a lacy cardigan and ankle boots for a country session. You could also add heels and gold jewelry for a dressier, engagement session.
For a more subtle touch, you could do a hint of burgundy with a pretty watch. We love this pricy but beautiful watch from Marc Jacobs (swoon!). Accessories are an excellent way to stay trendy without devoting a whole outfit to a single color. If you do choose to use this pretty reddish color, make sure to balance it with cream or neutral accessories to keep it seasonally appropriate. Another pretty and popular color trend this year is pastels, and they naturally lend themselves to Spring and Summer feels. If you aren’t naturally inclined to wearing pastels, be sure to blend them with darker shades like charcoal and denim blue in order to ground the photos and keep them from washing your skintone out. Kimonos are also a feminine and lovely trend for Spring and Summer, and they can be paired with anything from denim cutoffs to skirts and dresses. This pretty kimono look would be perfect for a senior or fashion-conscious teen (you can find it here). Pair kimonos with long, flowing hairstyles and slim tanks to prevent them from overwhelming your frame. Most of all, choose colors that you feel comfortable in. If you don’t wear a color, and are only choosing it because it is trendy, it will reflect in your photos. The most important thing is that you feel amazing and confident! We would love to help guide you through the process of choosing your outfits or offering suggestions.
