What is my style?
My style is to capture a few posed shots as well as interacting shots. My goal is for you to be yourself and not be looking into the camera for every shot. I want to capture your personality…I want the real you during our session time together! When it comes to editing, I like the natural look of photography. I like the colors to look sharp and crisp!
What is a location photographer?
I am a location photographer. I love natural light and the beauty it provides. There is just something about being outdoors and using the natural surroundings God has provided. There are so endless possibilities, which makes the session even more fun. When scheduling your appointment, we will discuss what locations best fit your interest and taste. I have all kinds of locations…parks and gardens, old barns, ponds, rustic buildings.
What can I expect at my session?
My goal for our session together is to make it fun and relaxing. Each session typically lasts 1 hour…except for newborn session. I do take into consideration that during a photo session with newborns and younger children there will be breaks for diaper changes, etc. 30 minutes prior to your newborn session, please make sure the baby has a full tummy and a clean diaper.
What should I wear to my session?
Here are a few ideas on choosing the wardrobe for your session:
1. Pick a color palette. Find an outfit that you REALLY like and want in your image and start matching everyone else’s clothes to colors from that outfit. Add a variety of color to your wardrobe selections. You can always add grays, whites, tans, and blacks to the palette to give more variation, if you need a neutral color. BUT don’t be scared of a few more bold colors!
2. If you choose BOLD colors, consider two things. First, think about the décor of the room where you will want to hang your portraits in. Will those colors coordinate with it? Second, consider the season that you are taking your pictures in. For example, if you are taking your pictures in the fall, then think of colors that will pop right out among those fall leaves, such as jewel tones. If you are having your pictures in a green field, then avoid green colors, but choose colors that will stand out against the background.
3. Don’t be afraid of layers. Layers add lots of versatility to an outfit and image. A collar under dad’s sweater. A denim jacket over sister’s dress. A chunky necklace or scarf for mom. Just think of things that will definitely make a statement about who YOU are.
4. Once you have your wardrobe picked out, throw it all on the bed and see if everything goes together!
5. Make sure that your clothes are freshly laundered and ironed to look your best.
6. Try to steer clear of clothing with large logos or graphics on the front. They are distracting and busy and usually take away from the picture. Simple patterns usually look best.
Remember, all of these are simple guidelines. You might find the perfect ensemble for your family that goes against ALL of these ideas and yet look amazing. IF you ever have any questions, I am always here to help you! Also, I have pinned ideas to my Pinterest Board for wardrobe ideas!
What do I bring with me to my appointment?
Here are a few things to bring to your sessions: hairbrush, makeup for touching up (especially powder and lipstick). If there is something you would like to include in your portraits please let me know ahead of time…though it’s never a problem. Hats, headbands, flower clips and blankets are always popular.
For small children, please make sure you bring baby wipes, kleenex, etc…there are times that a nose might need to be wiped!
When will I be able to view my portraits?
I do my best to at least get a few pictures up for you on facebook the day of the session, however, that all depends on my work load at the time. The turn around for getting pictures to you is typically about 2 weeks. Please remember that it does take time to process your photos. I look at each one and use my discretion as to which I feel are the ones that best captured your personality. Those are the ones I focus on when editing. I take pride in each picture I edit. I want to make sure it is a photo you will cherish for the rest of your life.
