Texas is such an amazing place to live, and we absolutely love it here! It is a place that is rich with culture, experiences, and art. We have recently decided to make the move to Fort Worth, where we are discovering all the new things we can enjoy as a family. Although I am now both a mom and a grandmother, I really love being aware of the things I can do with my younger grandchildren, and am always looking for new activities. Here are some of the best things we are excited to do when we move!
-The Kimbell Museum: This one is very well-known, but is pretty amazing nonetheless. It is a small but very expertly curated collection, and the museum itself is so peaceful and pretty. There is so much light flooding through the walkways and crevices, that it automatically will lift your mood when you visit it. Many people have recommended this as one that is great to take school-aged children to, since it is small and would be a relatively short trip.
-Six Flags over Texas: Although this is located in Arlington, which is East of Forth Worth, it is always the perfect place to take the family when you have children old enough to ride most of the coasters. If you’re going with tiny ones, be sure to bring along a babysitter or a grandparent that you can trade off with 🙂 They also provide stroller rentals which eliminates the need to carry bulky luggage with you when you visit…so handy!
-Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge: This place is awesome. Not only are they helping preserve and protect the wildlife, they provide some gorgeous places to visit. There are over 3000 acres, and plenty of walking trails, where you can enjoy the animals and the view. Visitors can take a self guided tour, or be guided by their amazing staff. It’s also super affordable, with admission at $5 and under per person.
-Sundance Square: This area is known as the heart of the local art scene. It’s a large area of over 35 blocks that’s filled with performances, art exhibits, and other restaurants and things to see. It is sure to keep visitors busy, no matter what the ages are of your children, and you can spent an entire day enjoying the sights and sounds. It is also easy to walk with strollers, and you can play in the water fountains when the weather is nice.
-Fort Worth Aviation Museum: Another hidden gem, with a ton of things to do, and for a very affordable price. With admission hovering around $5, it’s another place the whole family can enjoy together. It features lots of planes, relics, and history, and will delight anyone interested in the history of flights and airplanes. It also has flight simulators for guests to try out, and military families get in for free with their ID.
-Fort Worth Zoo: Who doesn’t love the zoo? Even as an adult, I still find such joy and excitement when I visit the zoo, and the one in Fort Worth is expansive and beautifully maintained. They take awesome care of the animals, who look happy and healthy, and they house over 540 different species. The zoo also does important work when it comes to conservation and protection of animals across the world, and they offer excellent education opportunities.
-Fort Worth Botanical Gardens: If you’re looking for a relaxing outing, this would be the choice I’d recommend. It truly offers beauty during any of the four seasons, with lots of pretty flowers and unique plants to look at, and they are similar to the zoo in that they offer educational opportunities for your children. There are several large picnic areas in the gardens, that you can use with your family (they do not allow large groups, but smaller ones are acceptable). My favorite is the Japanese garden, and the Rose Garden! They are so breathtaking, and always make me feel calm and relaxed!
-Dinosaur Valley State Park: With another low admission fee rate, Dinosaur Valley State Park is a great choice for adults and children alike. The gorgeous natural scenery and fun activities make it a winner, no matter how little your children are. You can step in actual dinosaur footprints, which will delight everyone in your family, and makes for a truly unique journey. It is spacious and has plenty of room to roam, so be sure to allow for a full day of exploration.
No matter what activities you are setting out to try with your families, remember to soak up the time with your little ones! It truly flies by. That’s why I am so passionate about my milestone sessions; they truly capture every moment!
