Each time I meet a new parent and their baby, I feel so blessed. I love working with these beautiful new babies, and I want every session to feel as celebratory and special as the babies they represent. That’s why I always offer my clients tips before their shoot…it helps everything run smoothly and keeps babies and their mom/dad feeling confident and excited! Here are some tips to consider as you prepare for your shoot:
-Make sure baby is well-fed right before the shoot: I know every mom is different in regards to bottle or breastfeeding and we welcome whichever way mom prefers. I recommend waking baby to change or take a bath, and then giving them a full feed right before you arrive. This works wonders in helping your little one stay relaxed and sleepy.
-Bring a pacifier. Sometimes, babies get restless between poses and during transitions. It is helpful to have a pacifier (plain without an animal attached) to use when necessary. It can help soothe the baby.
-Please dress baby in a simple outfit before arrival: It is best to dress baby in a very simple outfit for your session, that buttons or zips down the front and does not go over the head. Please do not put lotions or powders on baby before your shoot.
-Plan ahead for siblings: Although we love capturing sibling and family shots, those are done in the second half of a newborn session that includes them. For this reason, you need to arrange childcare for your additional little ones during the first part of your shoot, and arrange to have them join us towards the later part of the shoot. If they are going to need to come to the studio, they will need to have an adult supervising them during that portion. This helps everything run smoothly. If you need additional tips on planning for this part of your shoot, let me know so we can discuss it more fully.
