In the business of family, newborn, and maternity photography, every year isn’t just a chapter, it feels like a canvas waiting to be painted! I get really excited about the transition to a new year every time it happens, and I always try to pray about a new theme or word that will guide my year. As a person of faith, I always pray about what the year will bring, and each year, the Lord has given me an unique inspiration. In 2020, the word “favor” was something that was woven through my year and in my images. I witness lots of ways that “favor” showed up in ordinary and extraordinary moments! My word for 2021 was “intentional”, and then I walked into 2022 with the word “wait”. I encouraged lots of expectant mommies to wait with beautiful expectation, and I myself practiced lots of patience. In 2023, it was the word “embrace”, which became my focal point. I loved embracing the stories and ideas that came into my studio and connecting with so many amazing families.
Now, we are heading into 2024, and the words “focus/simplify” are the ones that I have chosen for this year. It encourages me to slow down and frame not just moments but stories, and to find clarity in chaos. As a family and maternity photographer, these guiding words shape not only the images I capture but the narratives that resonate in the hearts of those who entrust me with their cherished memories! I think there are quite a few trends going around on social media about “what’s out and what’s in” and for me, what’s “in” is definitely prioritizing and simplifying the things that mean the most to me.
As always, thank you for being part of my journey and trusting me with your stories!
