One of the most common questions I get asked is: “When should we book our session?”
And I get it! Between pregnancy milestones, newborn naps, school drop-offs, and everything else life throws at you, it’s hard to know when to plan for family photos. But here’s the good news: I’m here to help make that easy.
Whether you’re expecting your first baby, wrangling toddlers, or just trying to get one good photo where everyone is looking at the camera, this guide is for you.
Maternity Photos: 28–34 Weeks
This is the sweet spot when it comes to capturing that beautiful bump. By 28 weeks, your belly is round and prominent, but you’re likely still comfortable enough to move around easily. Any later and you might start to feel more fatigued or swollen.
Of course, every pregnancy is different. If you’re carrying multiples or just feel like your bump popped earlier, we can adjust. The goal is to photograph you when you feel your best.
Newborn Photos: 7–14 Days After Birth
Those first two weeks are pure magic. Newborns are sleepier, easier to pose naturally, and still have that curly, womb-like look that fades so quickly.
I recommend reaching out before your due date so we can tentatively block off a window, then adjust once baby arrives. Lifestyle newborn sessions are relaxed, cozy, and centered on capturing connection—no pressure for perfection.
Milestone Sessions: 3, 6, 9, and 12 Months
Your baby changes so much in the first year. Milestone sessions are a beautiful way to capture each new stage:
– 3 Months: Big-eyed baby expressions and tummy time
– 6 Months: Sitting up, lots of smiles
– 9 Months: Crawling, standing, personality popping
– 12 Months: First birthday celebration or cake smash fun
You can book individual sessions or bundle a few together as part of a first-year plan.
Family Sessions: Anytime—But Book Early
Family photos aren’t just for the holidays. Spring blooms, golden summer light, cozy fall evenings—there’s no wrong time to capture your crew. The key is planning ahead, especially if you’re eyeing a specific season or date.
I recommend reaching out 1–2 months in advance for full sessions and even earlier for seasonal mini sessions (they book FAST!).
Let Me Help You Plan It Out
You don’t have to figure it all out alone. I’m happy to help you plan the when and the what so your photos feel like a true reflection of this beautiful season of life—whatever that looks like for you.
Ready to get your session on the books? Let’s make some memories together.
