If you’ve ever booked a session with me, you might have noticed that I don’t just show up with a camera and call it a day. A big part of what I do actually happens before we ever take a single photo, and that’s styling. For a lot of families, this is the piece that feels unexpected at first. You might be wondering why it matters so much, especially when you already have a full closet at home.
Styling isn’t about replacing your wardrobe or telling you what you can or can’t wear. It’s about taking something that can feel overwhelming and turning it into something simple and taken care of for you. When outfits are thoughtfully coordinated, your images feel calm, connected, and timeless instead of busy or distracting. The goal is never to change who you are. It’s simply to highlight your family in the best way possible.
Most families come to me already feeling the weight of this decision. Moms are trying to coordinate multiple outfits, scrolling online late at night, second guessing colors, and hoping it all works when the day arrives. It’s one more thing on a very full plate, and it can easily take the joy out of what should feel like a really special experience.
That’s where I step in.
When I offer access to my client closet, it’s there to make your life easier. These pieces are chosen because they photograph beautifully in our Fort Worth light and work well together without feeling too matched. I also help guide outfit choices for dads and kids, so you’re not trying to piece everything together on your own. Whether you use pieces from my closet, your own, or a mix of both, you’ll have a clear plan that feels cohesive and stress free.
There’s also a practical side to styling that most people don’t think about. Certain fabrics soften in photos in a really lovely way. Movement adds life to your images. Neutral tones and gentle color palettes help keep the focus where it belongs, on your connection with each other. These are little details, but they make a noticeable difference in your final gallery.
At the end of the day, styling is one more way I care for my clients. You don’t have to spend hours figuring it out or wondering if you got it right. You get to show up knowing everything has already been thoughtfully planned, and that kind of peace carries all the way through your session.
If the idea of coordinating outfits has ever made you hesitate to book family photos, I want you to know it doesn’t have to feel that way. I’ll walk you through it, simplify it, and take that weight off your shoulders so you can focus on what actually matters, being present with your people.
